Stranger Things gets third Netflix run

Stranger Things will return to Netflix

SVoD giant Netflix has renewed its sci-fi hit Stranger Things for a third season.

The second run of the 1980s-set drama, which has become a cultural phenomenon since its emergence last year, launched in October.

The sci-fi horror series focuses on the adventures of a group of school children from the fictional town of Hawkins in Indiana.

A Netflix original production, Stranger Things was created by the Duffer brothers, Matt and Ross, who serve as exec producers and directors along with Shawn Levy (also director), Dan Cohen and Iain Patterson.

In related news, Netflix has also ordered a reimagining of children’s series Sabrina the Teenage Witch, focusing on the origin and adventures of the character originally played by Melissa Joan Hart.

The as-yet-untitled 20-episode series will be a coming-of-age story focusing on horror, the occult and witchcraft. It is based on characters from US publisher Archie Comics and will be produced by Berlanti Productions in association with Warner Bros Television.

The show will be exec produced by Roberto Aguirre-Sacasa, Lee Toland Krieger, Greg Berlanti, Sarah Schechter (Berlanti Productions) and Jon Goldwater (Archie Comics).
