StarzPlay adds Fremantle trio in MENA

Eva Green in The Luminaries

US cablenet Starz’s streaming service StarzPlay has picked up a trio of high-end dramas from production and distribution group Fremantle to be broadcast throughout MENA.

The deal sees crime series Baghdad Central from Emmy-nominated writer Stephen Butchard, drama series The Luminaries, starring Eva Green, and psychological thriller Dublin Murders added to the StarzPlay line-up in MENA.

Starzplay is available in 20 countries across the Middle East, North Africa and Pakistan and has over 10,000 hours of content in its catalogue including premium movies, originals and Arabic series.

The deal comes shortly after Starzplay announced it would develop its first original Arabic series.

Anahita Kheder, senior VP for the Middle East, Africa and south-eastern Europe, international at Fremantle, said: “Starzplay is one of the leading platforms in the MENA region for showcasing premium and in-demand programming, so we are proud to be partnering with them on these world-class dramas.”
