Starz prepares to Party Down again

The original Party Down launched in 1999

Lionsgate-owned cablenet Starz is reviving its cult scripted comedy Party Down, with a six-part limited series in development.

Created by Veronica Mars’ Rob Thomas and produced by Starz Media, Party Down debuted on Starz Entertainment in early 2009 and ran for two seasons before being cancelled.

Since then, many of its original cast have gone on to establish themselves as well-known television and movie actors, including Adam Scott, Jane Lynch, Megan Mullally and Lizzy Caplan.

The show follows a group of Hollywood wannabes who make their living working for an LA catering company as they chase their dreams of stardom, with each episode focusing on a particular event they are catering.

The finished episodes were later acquired by Hulu in 2014. Both seasons are currently available on Starz and for download or streaming via the Starz app.

The revival is being developed and executive produced by Thomas along with show alumni John Enbom (iZombie), Paul Rudd (Ant-Man) and Dan Etheridge (Veronica Mars). Enbom also serves as showrunner.

The limited series is produced for Starz by Lionsgate Television. Starz executive VP of original programming Karen Bailey is the executive overseeing Party Down on behalf of the cablenet.

Christina Davis, president of original programming for Starz, said: “Fans have been waiting more than 10 years for this revival to happen and we’re thrilled to be in development with Rob, Paul, Dan and John at the helm.”
