Stan takes Will & Grace down under

Will & Grace, cancelled by NBC in 2006, is returning to the network

Australian streaming service Stan has acquired the exclusive rights to the forthcoming return of Will & Grace, along with a host of other NBCUniversal (NBCU) shows.

The new Will & Grace will begin streaming on Stan on September 29, a day after it premieres on NBC in the US, following the deal with NBCUniversal International Distribution.

Produced by Universal Television and KoMut Entertainment, the show will again star Debra Messing, Eric McCormack, Sean Hayes and Megan Mullally as a group of friends living in New York. It was recently renewed by NBC for more episodes.

Another new NBCU show heading to Stan is Rise, from the producers of Friday Night Lights, which will begin streaming on Stan on the same day as its US premiere in 2018.

Executive produced by Jason Katims, the show is about a teacher who reforms a struggling theatrical programme at an inner-city school.

Meanwhile, Friday Night Lights and Parks & Recreation, both of which aired on NBC in the US before coming to an end in 2011 and 2015 respectively, will also be made available on Stan following the distribution deal with NBCU.

Stan is co-owned by Nine Entertainment and publisher Fairfax Media. It has been building up its slate of exclusive programming recently, with originals such as Romper Stomper and The Other Guy.
