The UK version of Dragons’ Den

Broadcasters in Brazil, Kenya and Israel are among the latest to have ordered local versions of Sony Pictures Television (SPT)’s entrepreneur format Dragons’ Den.

The show, which airs in the US on ABC as Shark Tank, is being remade for Brazil’s Canal Sony by Floresta and will debut later this month. The 13-episode run will be known locally as Negotiating with Sharks.

Meanwhile, Israel’s Keshet has commissioned a local series from Gil Productions for transmission in 2017 and Kenyan broadcaster Nation TV has ordered a 12-part first season to be produced by Quite Bright Films.

In Germany, Vox has ordered a fourth season of is version, which is known as Die Höhle der Löwen and is produced by SPT Germany.

Jane Dockery, senior VP of formats, international distribution for SPT, said the show had now spawned 30 adaptations and “continues to strike a chord with audiences around the globe.”

Danish broadcaster DR1 has ordered a second season of six episodes from United Productions, part of ITV Studios Nordic, due to air later this year, while in Portugal Take & Sound Productions is producing a 13-part second run for SIC.

Dragons’ Den was created by Japan’s Nippon TV and is distributed internationally by SPT. It gives entrepreneurs the opportunity to secure life-changing sums of money and expertise from some of the biggest names in business.
