Spirit rebrands, secures ITV2 renewal

UK prodco and social media agency Spirit has rebranded as Spirit Studios following the collapse of previous parent company Kew Media.

The rebrand marks an increased commitment to TV and digital production from the company, which has been independent since Kew folded in February.

Spirit’s new structure is made up of a TV and digital studio for original productions, a podcast studio, a branded-content studio and a platforms and distribution arm. It also operates mental health initiative #IAmWhole.

Based in Brighton, Spirit’s TV digital originals studio will be led by creative director Matt Campion, who co-founded the company alongside CEO Peter Cowley.

Meanwhile, UK broadcaster ITV2 has commissioned a third season of Spirit’s The Stand Up Sketch Show (8×30’), which is due to air in early 2021. The format has also been sold to Sweden distributor BBC Studios.

In addition, Spirit Studios has announced a new content partnership with LadBible Group. Spirit will work with social media-focused firm to produce a series of original formatted videos for its social and video channels.

Finally, the newly rebranded company is working on a string of original podcasts, including Vicky Pattison’s The Secret To and the next instalment of Russell Kane’s Boys Don’t Cry.

Cowley said: “We could not be more pleased to be showcasing the rebranded Spirit Studios and sharing the exciting news of our upcoming commissions and content partnership. We have always had one goal from day one: to make people feel good through the power of storytelling and entertainment to drive change.

“We feel that, under Spirit Studios and with our upcoming projects in place, we can continue to do exactly that.”
