Toronto-based production group Sphere Media (SM) is partnering with Scottish indie Two Rivers Media (TRM) to develop a feature documentary about Princess Diana’s friendship with her dance tutor, Anne Allan.

SM has secured the rights to Allen’s book, Dancing with Diana: A Memoir, which details how she spent nine years during the 1980s serving as the late Princess of Wales’ private dance tutor.

The book will serve as the inspiration for a 90-minute feature documentary to be coproduced by TRM and SM, with the latter company handling international distribution.

Marlo Miazga, president, SM, said: “It’s a rare thing to find a fresh angle on such an adored and explored public figure, but Anne’s memoir is a treasure trove of new perspectives and intimate insights into one of the most scrutinised women in history.

“It’s also exciting to be partnering with Two Rivers for the first time on a project that brings together both of our heritages with a story that will surely resonate with audiences around the world.”

Alan Clements, MD and executive producer, Two Rivers, said: “Diana’s story is, of course, as enduring as it is poignant. The gems to be found in these memoirs represent a perfect and organic opportunity and we’re very excited to take it.”
