Spain’s Filmax shops Vilapuig sisters’ semi-autobiographical Selftape in Miami

Sisters Joana and Mireia Vilapuig based Selftape on their own experiences

CONTENT AMERICAS: Spain’s Filmax is here at Content Americas in Miami launching scripted series Selftape (6×30′), created by and starring sisters Joana and Mireia Vilapuig, who both appeared in global hit The Red Band Society as teenagers.

The show is an original for Spanish SVoD service Filmin and was shot in Catalan and Spanish, with some dialogue in English. It was co-written by the Vilapuig sisters along with Ivan Mercadé, Carlos Robisco and Clara Esparrach.

The series mixes drama and autobiography as it follows two girls who find fame as teens and are now trying to get on with their lives. The Filmax production for Filmin also has support from public broadcaster RTE Institut Català de les Empreses Culturals. It will debut on Filmin in the first quarter of 2023

“The series is fresh and modern, and its mix of reality and fiction make it very original. The themes dealt within the series affect young women everywhere in today’s world and so we’re sure it will travel well internationally,” said Ivan Diaz, head of international at Filmax.
