South Korea’s CJ ENM racks up pre-sales for romantic thriller Decision to Leave

Crime thriller Decision to Leave

South Korean entertainment company CJ ENM has secured pre-sales in more than 150 territories for feature Decision to Leave, directed by Park Chan-wook (The Handmaiden, The Little Drummer Girl) and film Broker from Shoplifters filmmaker Hirokazu Kore-eda.

Crime thriller Decision to Leave follows a detective who is investigating the murder of a man in the mountains, but who develops feelings for the prime suspect – his widow. Cast members include Chinese actress Tang Wei and Korean actor Park Hae-il. Director Chan-wook was also behind Oldboy.

Decision to Leave has been pre-sold to 192 territories including: Bac Films for France; MovieCloud for Taiwan; Mubi for North America, UK, Turkey and India; Happinet Phantom Studios for Japan; Koch Films for Germany; Lucky Red for Italy; and Madman for Australia and New Zealand.

It has also been pre-bought by: Nonstop for Scandinavia; Cineart for Benelux; Edko for Macau and Hong Kong; and Purple Plan for Singapore, Malaysia and Brunei.

According to CJ ENM, the feature’s pre-sales nearly match that of Acadamy Award winning Parasite, which recorded the highest sales in Korean film history.

Meanwhile, Broker has recorded a global pre-sale of 171 regions, with Neon for North America; Metropolitan for France; MovieCloud for Taiwan; Gaga for Japan; Koch Films for Germany and Italy; Triart Film for Scandinavia; September Film for Benelux; and Edko for Macau and Hong Kong among its worldwide distributors.

Broker, directed by Japanese director Kore-eda (Like Father, Like Son), depicts a special journey of unexpected encounters surrounding a baby box and stars Song Kang-ho, Gang Dong-won, Bae Doona, Lee Ji-eun and Lee Ju-young.
