South Korean gameshow The Genius Game set for Dutch adaptation on NPO

The original Korean version of The Genius Game

BCWW: A Dutch version of South Korean elimination quizshow The Genius Game has been greenlit by NTR in the Netherlands.

NTR, which supplies programming to Dutch public broadcasting system NPO, has ordered eight episodes from local prodco Tin Can. The weekly series is titled The Genius and will debut on NPO on October 3 at 21.15.

The news was announced during the BCWW conference taking place here in Seoul this week, where plenty of the sessions and canapé chat has been focusing on the country’s big unscripted exports, The Masked Singer (MBC) and I Can See Your Voice (CJ ENM).

There has also been much talk about new scripted smash hit Extraordinary Attorney Woo, which debuted on Skylife-owned satellite channel ENA in June and has transformed the previously little-watched network almost overnight.

The Genius Game was created by producer Jung Jong-yeon (The Society Game, The Great Escape) and is owned by South Korean entertainment group CJ ENM. It debuted on CJ-owned cable network TVN in 2013 and landed three further seasons in 2014 and 2015.

“The Korean version of the show has become the channel’s mega-hit and created massive fandom for both show and the channel. I assure it will do the same for NPO,” said Diane Min, head of format sales at CJ ENM.
