South Korea turns on Gogglebox

KBS in South Korea is the latest international broadcaster to commission a local version of hit UK format Gogglebox.

The show, which films families at home watching the week’s television and commenting and reacting to what they see, was originally created by All3Media-owned Studio Lambert for Channel 4 in the UK.

All3Media International distributes the format and has now concluded a deal with KBS where the show’s title translates as Determined to Watch the Premier.

It’s the latest international deal for the series, which has taken the UK by storm since its premiere in March 2013. ProSiebenSat.1 in Germany aired a one-off special titled Living Room Heroes – This is what Germany Watches Before Christmas, produced by All3Media sister company MME Entertainment.

An Irish version, Sofa Stars, is in the works for commercial channel TV3 while US cablenet Bravo commissioned The People’s Couch at the end of 2013.

There are now more than 25 international versions of the format including a Canadian show from Bell Media for THA and an Israeli series for Keshet. All3Media International says a deal has recently been concluded with an unnamed broadcaster in Mongolia.
