Sony exec enters Asylum for drama label

Asylum Entertainment Group has launched a new drama label and hired a Sony Pictures Television Networks (SPTN) exec to run it.

Derek Stoops

Clovis Entertainment will develop and produce one-hour drama series for international distribution, in both English and local languages.

Derek Stoops, who was senior VP of original programming for SPTN, has been named executive VP at Clovis, where he will be responsible for managing the creative teams and production.

Stoops’ SPTN credits include Absentia for Amazon Prime Video, Carter (WGN) and Reckoning (AXN), plus NBC trio Hannibal, Crossing Lines and The Firm.

“We are fortunate to have Derek on board,” said Asylum CEO Steve Michaels. “While at Sony, he was a driving force at the forefront of emerging television models. For this venture, Derek brings exactly the right experience and expertise to the company.”

Asylum Entertainment Group was formed earlier this year as the parent company of LA-based collective The Content Group.
