Snipple on board Disney+’s Proud Family reboot

The Proud Family: Louder & Prouder is in production

Disney has tapped Philippines-based studio Snipple as the animation production partner for Disney Television Animation and Disney+’s forthcoming reboot of animated sitcom The Proud Family.

The Proud Family: Louder & Prouder is currently in production at Disney Television Animation for a 2022 launch on Disney+, having been announced last year.

The series will pick up the story of its central character Penny Proud and also include her madcap family, with Kyla Pratt, Tommy Davidson, Paula Jai Parker and Jo Marie Payton among those reprising their voice roles from the original series.

Disney+ has also confirmed that Billy Porter (Pose), Zachary Quinto (Star Trek) and EJ Johnson (Rich Kids of Beverly Hills) have joined the cast of the upcoming animated series.

Porter and Quinto, respectively, will voice the mixed-race adoptive parents to 14-year-old activist Maya Leibowitz-Jenkins, who it was previously announced will be voiced by Keke Palmer. Johnson will voice Michael Collins, Penny’s best guy friend who is a non-conforming trendsetter.

The series is executive produced by Bruce W Smith (The Princess & the Frog) and Ralph Farquhar (Moesha), both of whom led the original series.

Calvin Brown Jr (Moesha) is co-executive producer and story editor, Jan Hirota (Big Hero 6 The Series) is producer and Eastwood Wong (Carmen Sandiego) is art director.

All previous seasons of The Proud Family are available on Disney+.

Snipple, which is also working on DreamWorks Animation’s original series The Mighty Ones, was founded by CEO Kaine Patel, president Jonathan Tinsay and creative director Romy Garcia a decade ago.

Since then, the company has grown from 20 people to over 800 and has provided service work on titles including Animaniacs, Green Eggs & Ham, DuckTales, Where’s Waldo and Phineas & Ferb The Movie: Candace Against the Universe.

Earlier this year the company secured £6m (US$8.4m) in funding from growth investor BGF to develop its own IP.
