Slovakia’s TV Markiza makes an appointment with Doctor Foster adaptation

Zrada (Betrayal), will be produced by Bratislava-based prodco Film Kolektiv

TV Markiza in Slovakia has commissioned a local language adaptation of BBC scripted format Doctor Foster.

The 10-part psychological drama, titled Zrada (Betrayal), will be produced by Bratislava-based prodco Film Kolektiv (Restore Point).

Scheduled to premiere on TV Markiza on February 5, it stars Klára Issová (Genius) and Milan Ondrík (Iveta).

Like the original BBC series, produced by Drama Republic, the story follows a doctor whose life implodes when she suspects her husband of having an affair.

The BBC Studios-distributed format has already been successfully adapted in markets such as Japan, South Korea, France, Turkey, the Philippines, and Indonesia.

André Renaud, senior VP of global format sales, BBC Studios, said: “Almost 10 years since its original UK broadcast Doctor Foster continues to find new life and audiences around the world, which is testament to the powerful storyline and the depiction of complex characters.

“TV Markíza’s audiences are in for a treat with this adaptation from February.”

Silvia Majeská, programme director of the Markíza Group, said: “I am very excited that we can bring another ambitious series project to the TV screens with an excellent cast and truly top-notch production quality.”
