SkyShowtime sets line-up of forthcoming originals in Nordics, CEE and Iberia
Natasha Lyonne exec produces and stars in Poker Face
SkyShowtime, the European streaming joint venture between Paramount Global and Comcast, has revealed the line-up of series it will stream later this year and in 2024.
The streamer, which launched last September in the Nordics before arriving in Central and Eastern Europe and Iberia, will premiere 10 original series following various acquisition deals.
Many of the shows come as a result of the deal it struck with Warner Bros Discovery (WBD) for various HBO Max original series, some of which had yet to launch on the European version of the streamer, which axed its EMEA originals arm last year to cut costs.
Among the forthcoming titles set to launch as a result of this deal are Finnish-Swedish crime drama Codename: Annika (formerly known as ID), Polish-language tragicomic drama Warszawianka and Czech and Slovakian comedy The Winner.
SkyShowtime also features series from its sibling companies Paramount Global, NBCUniversal’s Peacock service and Sky Studios.
Spanish series Las Invisibles (The Invisible Ladies) and Mentiras Pasajeras (Fleeting Lies) will be available in Spain and Portugal, having been commissioned by Paramount+ in Latin America.
Additional shows coming to SkyShowtime later this year include mystery-of-the-week series Poker Face, starring Natasha Lyonne (Russian Doll), plus Django, the reimagining of the famous 1966 film in select Central and Eastern European territories, the Nordics, Portugal and Spain.
Later this year, SkyShowtime will launch Showtime’s The Curse, starring Emma Stone, Nathan Fielder and Benny Safdie, which explores how an alleged curse disturbs the relationship of a newly married couple.
SkyShowtime will also exclusively premiere the latest Taylor Sheridan series, Special Ops: Lioness, starring series lead and executive producer Zoe Saldaña, Academy Award winner and executive producer Nicole Kidman, Laysla De Oliveira, and Academy Award winner Morgan Freeman. The original series follows the Lioness Engagement Team as they help bring down a terrorist organisation from within.
Part two of Yellowstone season five will be streaming exclusively across SkyShowtime markets later this year.
Additionally, the second seasons of Halo, plus 1923, starring Academy Award winner Helen Mirren and Academy Award nominee Harrison Ford, and Sylvester Stallone-led comedy series Tulsa King will be coming exclusively to SkyShowtime.
Movies such as Babylon, Bros, M3gan and She Said will also premiere exclusively on SkyShowtime in most markets, joining Top Gun: Maverick, Jurassic World Dominion, and Minions: The Rise of Gru.
The streamer is available in Albania, Andorra, Bosnia & Herzegovina, Bulgaria, Croatia, Czechia, Denmark, Finland, Hungary, Kosovo, Montenegro, North Macedonia, Norway, Netherlands, Poland, Portugal, Romania, Serbia, Slovakia, Slovenia, Spain and Sweden.
Speaking at the Cannes Film Market, SkyShowtime CEO Monty Sarhan said: “As home to some of the most compelling exclusive programming – representing the best of Hollywood and the region – and an exceptional line-up of movies, SkyShowtime is dedicated to bringing customers across Europe a premium content offering at a great price.”
