SkyShowtime expands original programming with first Polish commission

Pan-European streamer SkyShowtime is expanding its original programming offering with its first original commission in Poland.

Sleboda, an adaptation of the critically acclaimed crime novel of the same name, will mark the streaming services expansion of locally produced originals as part of its continued commitment to provide exclusive programming that resonates with local audiences across its markets.

The series, based on the first part of a series of novels by Małgorzata Fugiel-Kuźmińska and Michał Kuźmiński, will be produced by Magdalena Szwedkowicz (Forgotten Love) and directed by Michał Gazda (The Pack, Forgotten Love).

SkyShowtime chief content officer Kai Finke said: “After less than a year since the launch of our service in Central and Eastern Europe, I’m thrilled to announce that we are commissioning our first Polish original series, Sleboda. With this show we are marking our continued commitment to delivering high quality local entertainment to our members.”

The joint venture between Comcast and Paramount Global launched 10 originals in 2023 – it’s first year of operation – and so far in 2024 has announced a further four original programmes.
