SkyD, Deutsche Telekom ink IPTV deal

News Corp-owned German pay-TV platform Sky Deutschland is expanding its sport and entertainment offering via IPTV as part of a deal with Deutsche Telekom.

From the middle of this year, subscribers to Deustche Telekom’s Entertain IPTV package will be able to pick up the full bouquet of Sky Deutschland’s sports channels.

The deal will mean that Entertain customers will now be able to see a range of live domestic and European football, including matches from the German Bundesliga and UEFA Champions League.

It also includes major golf and tennis tournaments and will run from the middle of this year until 2017. Sky Film, Sky Welt and Sky HD channels are also being added to the Entertain platform for the first time.

Brian Sullivan, CEO of Sky Deutschland, said: “The agreement ensures those already watching the Bundesliga on the Telekom Entertain platform can continue to do so uninterrupted. It will also open up the full range of Sky’s award-winning sport coverage, including all live matches of the UEFA Champions League, UEFA Europa League and the DFB-Pokal.”

However, the agreement does mean that Liga Total customers will need to switch to a standard Sky contract in time for the start of the 2014/15 football season.
