Sky1 gets into live stand-up

UK pay TV channel Sky1, part of European satcaster Sky, is launching a live stand-up comedy show from Dublin’s Olympia Theatre.

Deirdre O’Kane

The week-long five-part series will be fronted by Irish comedian Deirdre O’Kane and feature a mixture of big-name comedy stars and fresh talent.

It will be produced by Kite, the prodco behind Gogglebox Ireland, Ireland’s Fittest Family and Ireland’s Got Talent, and is expected to air on Sky1 next autumn. Tickets will go on sale next year.

Phil Edgar Jones, director of Sky Arts and Sky’s head of entertainment, said: “Deidre O’Kane is one funny woman – ever since her star turn in the brilliant Moone Boy we’ve been wanting to create a show around her unique talents and made entirely in Ireland.”

The news comes after Sky partnered with Kite last year following a commissioning call-out to the Irish independent production sector to find and fund the next Irish-produced hit for Sky1.
