Sky Vision partners with US indie

Sky Vision, the distribution division of UK satcaster BSkyB, is joining forces with fledgling US prodco Ugly Brother Studios to develop reality and factual entertainment series.

Ugly Brother is being launched by twins Mike and Tim Duffy and has already had its competitive culinary series House of Food greenlit by MTV in the US. It also has a three-project development deal with cablenet Spike TV.

Sky Vision will develop, produce and distribute reality and factual entertainment series and formats aimed at the US and international markets with the Ugly Brother team.

Previously Mike Duffy was executive VP at T Group Productions and MD of branded content at Ben Silverman’s Electus as well as executive VP and head of development at Zodiak USA.

Tim was most recently senior VP of original series a Spike where he spent nearly a decade executive producing the channel’s male skewed, non-scripted content.

The deal is the first of its kind for Sky Vision, which was formed when Sky bought out independent distributor Parthenon Entertainment in July 2012, as it starts to look more internationally for content opportunities.

Sky Vision MD Jane Millichip, who took over last year, said: “This deal gives both parties the opportunity to create exciting and commercially relevant programming on an international scale. Our aim is to deliver the very best in programming and formats developed in conjunction with Ugly Brother for international broadcasters.”
