Sky ups Roku investment

UK satcaster BSkyB has made a further US$700,000 equity investment in US internet television firm Roku, adding to the US$12.2m it has put into the company since 2012.

Rupert Murdoch’s 21st Century Fox, which holds a 39% stake in the UK satcaster, has also invested further in Roku alongside Sky, although the latter company did not reveal the amount Fox has committed.

Sky’s first investment in Roku came in July 2012 as part of the latter’s US$45 round of funding, and it put in more money in May 2013.

The broadcaster has recently made a number of similar deals with other video tech-related companies, including California-based Jaunt and social TV company Zeebox, which is now known as Beamly.
