Sky reopens Doctor’s Notebook

UK satcaster Sky Arts has greenlit a second season of its drama miniseries A Young Doctor’s Notebook, starring Daniel Radcliffe.

The 4×30’ season, which will air this year, is based on a collection of short stories from author and playwright Mikhail Bulgakov about a doctor working during the Russian Revolution.

The new season is being produced by the UK’s Big Talk Productions in association with Point West Pictures. It will be available on US pay TV channel Ovation and is being distributed internationally by BBC Worldwide.

The new episodes begin with the young doctor, played by Radcliffe, addicted to morphine while an older version of himself (Mad Men’s Jon Hamm) comments on his behaviour.

The show’s first run, part of Sky’s commitment to invest £600m (US$960m) in local programming by 2014, is currently being shown on Ovation and has been sold to pay TV channel HBO Nordic.
