Sky orders doc on feud between Formula One drivers Gilles Villeneuve, Didier Pironi

Villeneuve & Pironi

Sky in the UK, Italy and Germany has commissioned a feature documentary examining the rivalry between Formula One drivers Gilles Villeneuve and Didier Pironi.

Villeneuve & Pironi is one of the first projects to emerge from UK indie Noah Media Group’s multi-title development deal with Sky Studios. The two firms will produce the feature in collaboration with Sky Italia.

The film focuses on the infamous 1982 Formula One season and on the events of the final laps of the Italian Grand Prix which led the two racers to never speak to each other again.

Torquil Jones (14 Peaks: Nothing Is Impossible, Bobby Robson: More Than a Manager) is directing Villeneuve & Pironi, while John McKenna (14 Peaks: Nothing Is Impossible, Finding Jack Charlton) and former Formula One driver Mark Webber serve as producers.

NBCUniversal Global Distribution will handle international sales of the documentary on behalf of Sky Studios.

Noah CEO John McKenna said: “We are extremely privileged and grateful to both the Villeneuve and Pironi families for putting their trust in Noah Media Group to tell this truly remarkable story of two incredible men. This will be a film with huge emotion and drama at its heart and we believe it will be the perfect start to our relationship with Sky Studios.”
