Sky, Left Bank look up The Fear Index

European pay TV broadcaster Sky and The Crown producer Left Bank Pictures are working on an adaptation of Robert Harris’s best-selling novel The Fear Index.

Josh Hartnett

Penny Dreadful star Josh Hartnett has been confirmed in the cast alongside Leila Farzad (I Hate Suzie, Innocent), Arsher Ali (The Ritual, Informer) and Grégory Montel (Call My Agent).

Adapted by Paul Andrew Williams and Caroline Bartleet, and directed by David Caffrey (The Alienist, Peaky Blinders), the four-part limited series is being produced by Left Bank Pictures in association with Sky Studios.

The series will begin filming this month in Hungary and will air on Sky Atlantic and streaming service NOW later this year.

Hartnett stars as a computer scientist and genius who develops an AI-driven system that exploits fear in the financial markets and operates at lightning speed to make big returns.

Gabriel Silver, recently appointed director of commissioning for drama at Sky Studios, said: “Paul and Caroline’s scripts offer a relentlessly gripping take on a chilling Frankenstein parable of our times, and we are delighted to be working with Left Bank and the incredible cast led by Josh Hartnett to bring Robert Harris’s thrilling story to Sky viewers later this year.”

The series was commissioned by Zai Bennett, MD of content for Sky UK and Ireland, and Paul Gilbert, exec producer for Sky Studios.

The exec producers are Andy Harries and Sharon Hughff for Left Bank Pictures, and Paul Gilbert for Sky Studios. NBCUniversal Global Distribution will sell the show internationally.
