Sky in court over music format

UK satcaster BSkyB is being taken to the High Court over claims about the origins of reality show Must Be The Music.

Brian Wade and Geraldine Perry, co-founders of Waif Productions, claim the show was based on their idea for a format that would see musicians perform their own songs in front of a judging panel made up of songwriters.

According to Wade and Perry, BSkyB decided not to proceed with the idea but then ordered Must Be The Music for Sky 1. It was produced by Shine-owned Princess Productions and aired for just one season.

Sky is contesting the claim.

A Sky spokesman said: “A format infringement claim has been brought against Sky relating to the Sky 1 HD show Must Be the Music. We reject the claim and are defending our position.”
