Sky Deutschland reveals OTT service

German pay TV operator Sky Deutschland has launched a stand-alone OTT service allowing subscribers to access the broadcaster’s content on a monthly basis.

Sky Online provides access to linear channels and on-demand content with a Starter service and a Sky Film package.

The former costs €9.99 (US$12.50) per month and allows access to channels such as Fox, RTL Crime and Disney Junior while the latter, which costs €19.99, provides subscribers with programming from Sky Atlantic, Sky Cinema and Disney Cinemagic.

Subscribers can also add a sports package for a further €19.99 per day to watch Uefa Champions League football, Formula One and golf.

The service is available via the internet as well as iPad and iPhone apps, with plans to roll out the service onto Android devices, the Sky box, Xbox games console and smart TVs over the coming months.

Sky also revealed it has been working with US streamer Roku to develop its own set-top box that turns televisions into smart TVs. The device allows customers to use Sky Online with their existing TV and gain access to more apps through the Roku service.

The German broadcaster, which is being taken over by UK sibling BSkyB, yesterday extended its deal with Warner Bros International Television Distribution to give the broadcaster on-demand rights to the US firm’s new movies during the pay TV window across platforms.
