Sky Deutschland extends Disney deal

Sky Deutschland is extending its exclusive deal with Disney to show the US company’s feature films in Germany and Austria.

The satellite platform has secured a multi-year extension to the pay TV and subscription VoD rights to all forthcoming films distributed by Disney in the two European territories.

The deal includes future titles from Disney subsidiaries such as Lucasfilm – including Star Wars Episode VII – Marvel Studios and Disney Pixar. Titles will get their first run in the territory on Sky’s film channels as well as its on-demand services Sky Anytime and Sky Go.

It means that four Disney pay TV channels – Disney Junior, Disney XD, Disney Cinemagic and Disney Cinemagic HD – will continue to air on Sky with programming available via the Sky GO and Sky Anytime platforms.

Snap, Sky’s new online media library, will also add titles including Tim Burton’s Alice in Wonderland, Pixar’s Toy Story 3 and series such as Marvel’s The Avengers: Earth’s Mightiest Heroes.

The alliance between Sky D and Disney comes after fellow News Corp-controlled pay TV business BSkyB sealed a wide-ranging pact with the Mouse House in the UK earlier this year.
