Sky brings back Never Mind The Buzzcocks

L-R: Daisy May Cooper, Noel Fielding, Greg Davies and Jamali Maddix

UK pay broadcaster Sky has rebooted long-running pop music panel show Never Mind The Buzzcocks and will air it as a Sky Original on its channels and OTT platform Now TV.

Originally broadcast on the BBC in 1996, the show ran for 19 years before ending in 2015.

Comedian and actor Greg Davies has been confirmed to host an 8×45’ series of the new show in the autumn, plus a Christmas special.

Comedian Noel Fielding returns as a team captain, while Daisy May Cooper (This Country) replaces Phill Jupitus as head of the other team. Comic Jamali Maddix will also make regular guest appearances alongside weekly guest musicians and comedians.

Fremantle-owned UK prodco Talkback, which made the original, will produce once again.

Executive producers are Talkback’s director of programmes Kate Edmunds and MD Jonno Richards. Jordan Read is series producer and Fremantle retains the global format rights.

Phil Edgar-Jones, director of Sky Arts and entertainment for Sky, said: “Buzzcocks is one of those truly iconic shows and to be bringing it back with Greg Davies at the helm, alongside Daisy May Cooper, Noel Fielding and Jamali Maddix, is a buzz and a treat for lovers of tuneless humming everywhere.”

Edmunds said: “We’re over the moon that Sky has made the very wise decision to reboot our beloved Buzzcocks. Musicians, stand down, we hear your deafening cries for some long-overdue attention. The outrageously talented Greg, Daisy, Noel and Jamali are more than happy to oblige.”
