Sky Arts acquires Israeli POW drama

UK satcaster Sky Arts has acquired the critically acclaimed Israeli drama that inspired Homeland, Showtime’s US thriller that recently debuted in Britain.

Hatufim (10×60’, aka Prisoners of War) originally aired on Keshet and was created by Gideon Raff. The Hebrew-language show will air on Sky Arts 1 in May with English subtitles.

It follows the story of a trio of captured Israeli Defence League soldiers, two of which are released 17 years later and struggle to readjust to regular life and newly bestowed hero status.

Last year, Showtime commissioned Fox 21 to create a 12-episode remake for US cable and Homeland became one of the top dramas to come out the country last year. A second season will go into production in the Spring.

Homeland, which stars Damian Lewis and Clare Danes, debuted in the UK on terrestrial Channel 4 on Sunday.
