Skai TV lands a Greek version of ITV Studios’ Love Island from Silverline

The 2021 season of Love Island UK

Skai TV in Greece has become the latest international broadcaster to commission a local version of ITV Studios’ format Love Island.

The Greek show will be produced by local outfit Silverline and is scheduled to premiere this autumn.

It will be the 23rd international iteration of the ITV Studios and Motion Content Group relationship format.

Season eight of the original UK series concluded on ITV2 last week. The US version launched on streaming service Peacock on July 19.

The format places singletons in a holiday villa to couple up, with viewers deciding which will remain in the show and who should be crowned the ‘hottest couple’ on the island to win the season.

The format has proved controversial in the UK and criticised by mental health charities for a variety of issues including body shaming and the behaviour of men towards women on the show.

There have been three suicides among people involved in the UK version. Host Caroline Flack took her own life in 2020, https://www.c21media.net/news/lygo-defends-itv-after-hosts-death/ following Sophie Gradon and Mike Thalassitis in 2018 and 2019 respectively after they appeared as contestants in previous seasons.
