Showtime’s gritty Chicago-based drama The Chi to end after eighth season

Coming-of-age drama series The Chi

Chicago-set drama The Chi is set to end after its eighth season on US network Showtime.

The series will go into production on its last batch of episodes early in 2026. Showtime, whose parent company Paramount recently came under new ownership, officially greenlit season eight in May.

Created by Lena Waithe, The Chi follows the residents of a Chicago neighbourhood whose lives are connected by a coincidence and a shared desire for redemption.

It stars Lynn Whitfield, Jacob Latimore, Michael V Epps, Yolonda Ross, Luke James, Shamon Brown Jr, Birgundi Baker and Wendy Raquel Robinson.

The show comes from Disney’s 20th Television, with executive producers including Waithe through her Hillman Grad banner, co-showrunner Justin Hillian via Hillianaire Productions and co-showrunner Jewel Coronel through Uncut Gems.
