Showtime reboots Spike Lee flick

Director Spike Lee is adapting his debut feature film She’s Gotta Have It as a TV series for US cablenet Showtime.

Showtime is developing a half-hour series adaptation of the hit 1986 film, with Lee (Do The Right Thing) set to write and direct the project.

The award-winning movie, shot in 12 days on a US$175,000 budget, deals with themes of race, sexuality and relationships in New York City. It starred Tracy Camilla Johns, Tommy Redmond Hicks, John Canada Terrell and Lee.

Should She’s Gotta Have It get picked up, it would join Showtime’s roster of original comedy dramas including House of Lies, Episodes, Nurse Jackie, Shameless and Web Therapy.
