Showtime develops Ethan Hawke-led crime series The Whites penned by Price

Joshua Caleb Johnson and Ethan Hawke in The Good Lord Bird, streamed by Showtime

Showtime in the US is developing a limited series based on a crime novel by Richard Price that will see Ethan Hawke play a New York City police detective.

The Whites tells the story of a police detective under siege by an unsolved murder, by his own dark past, and by a violent stalker seeking revenge.

Written by The Night Of co-writer Price under the pseudonym Harry Brandt, The Whites was set to be turned into a feature film prior to its publication in 2015, though talks never advanced.

The project, from Civic Center Media in association with MRC Television, reunites Hawke with Showtime after the two worked together on another limited series, The Good Lord Bird, in 2020.

According to US reports, Jez Butterworth (Ford v Ferrari, Spectre) will write and executive produce. Hawke will also executive produce, under his Under the Influence banner, with Ryan Hawke. Price will also executive produce, while Rian Johnson, Ram Bergman and Nena Rodrigue will executive produce via T-Street.
