Fallout is one of the biggest video game franchises of all time – a post-apocalyptic role-playing survival story first released in 1997, which has gone on to spawn three more versions to date and a string of spin-offs.

Now, following the success of HBO’s The Last of Us, a TV series version has landed on Amazon Prime Video, produced by Kilter Films, Beth-es-da Game Studios, Beth-es-da Softworks and Amazon MGM Studios.

Created by co-showrunners Graham Wagner and Geneva Robertson-Dworet, the eight-part drama is set in Los Angeles in 2296 – 219 years after a nuclear war – and counts Ella Purnell, Walton Goggins and Kyle MacLachlan among its stars.

The series was last week renewed for a second season, and Wagner spoke to Michael Pickard ahead of that news, about making the show, his partnership with Robertson-Dworet and director Jonathan Nolan, and how he hopes to build on the legacy of other video game adaptations.
