Shomi comes alive with iZombie

The fledgling subscription VoD service from Canadian broadcasters Rogers Communications and Shaw Communications has stocked up on series from the US ahead of its launch next month.

Shomi has agreed a deal with Warner Bros International Distribution to give it exclusive Canadian premiere rights to forthcoming Rob Thomas series iZombie.

The series follows a medical student-turned-zombie who takes a job in a coroner’s office and is set to debut on The CW in the US later this year.

Other titles acquired from Warner Bros include Two and a Half Men, One Tree Hill, Veronica Mars, The West Wing, Scooby-Doo, Teen Titans, Falling Skies and Vampire Diaries spin-off The Originals.

The deal comes after Shomi last week struck an alliance with Netflix for new survivalist thriller Between, marking the US streamer’s first original Canadian series.

Shomi is a 50/50 joint venture between Rogers and Shaw and is due to launch in November. Initially it will be available only to Rogers and Shaw internet or TV customers and will cost C$8.99 per month to subscribe.
