Sheen to undergo Anger Management

Lionsgate Television has confirmed that it will produce Charlie Sheen’s return to TV in a new sitcom based on the film Anger Management.

The former Two and a Half Men star left the CBS show in March after a series of high-profile problems in his private life and was replaced by former That ’70s Show star Ashton Kutcher.

After completing a 22-date nationwide tour of his own show, My Violent Torpedo of Truth/Defeat Is Not An Option, Sheen has now agreed to star in a small- screen adaptation of the Jack Nicholson and Adam Sander film released in 2003.

He will play a mild-mannered, non-confrontational man who is ordered to attend group anger management sessions led by a therapist with anger issues of their own.

Lionsgate, whose current slate includes Mad Men and Nurse Jackie, will produce the programme with Revolution Studios and Evolution Management. Lionsgate-owned Debmar-Mercury will distribute the show, which is yet to secure a US broadcaster.

Sheen will also hold a stake in the series, which “provides me with a certain amount of creative control,” the actor said in a statement.

He added: “I chose Anger Management because, while it might be a big stretch for me to play a guy with serious anger management issues, I think it is a great concept.”

Two and a Half Men fans will see Kutcher in action when the show returns to CBS for its ninth season on Monday September 19.
