Sharon Vuong confirmed as NBCUniversal’s head of unscripted programming

NBCUniversal (NBCU) has confirmed Sharon Vuong as its head of unscripted programming after the veteran executive assumed the role on an interim basis earlier this year.

Sharon Vuong

Vuong, who has been with NBCU for five years, has been named as executive VP for unscripted programming at NBC after previously holding the position of exec VP of alternative programming.

She was elevated to the interim post in January amid a restructure that resulted in the departure of Corie Henson, the former exec VP of unscripted content, competition and gameshows at NBCU.

Vuong, who reports to Pearlena Igbokwe, chairman of television studios, NBC Entertainment and Peacock scripted, is charged with overseeing talent, gameshow and competition formats for the broadcast network.

Unscripted programming for cablenet Bravo and streamer Peacock falls under Frances Berwick.

Other members of Vuong’s team include Jenny Ramirez, senior VP of entertainment unscripted alternative programming; Shelby Shaftel, senior VP of unscripted series and development; Kristina Edwards, VP of current series and development; and Merrill Hendrickson, VP of unscripted series.

Before arriving at NBCU in 2020, Vuong was the senior VP of alternative programming at CBS Entertainment, where she was responsible for development and current programming across all alternative programming, including franchises, such as Survivor, Big Brother and The Amazing Race.
