The first project produced under the new division is Mötley Crüe’s Vince Neil: My Story, which is set to debut on cable channel Reelz in the US on June 26.

The doc looks at what led Neil to music, the formation and early days of notorious rock ‘n’

roll band Mötley Crüe and how he navigated the road to stardom.

Scott Sternberg is the director and served as executive producer alongside Neil. The project includes interviews with Neil’s son and daughter, as well as bandmates Tommy Lee and Nikki Sixx.

Led by principals Rob and Cindy Dorfmann, US prodco Strong Island Films is focused on documentary and non-fiction reality programming, with elements of scripted television.

The company’s documentary Making an Exonoree, which follows 16 undergraduates at Georgetown University who reinvestigate five wrongful conviction cases and help find evidence to exonerate a man jailed for 27 years, is currently on the festival circuit. Its other credits include Invention USA, Up & Vanished, My Uncle is the Green River Killer, Fight Science and Crime 360.

The newly launched doc division is in development on Where the Hits Were Born, which looks at where, when, how and why the biggest hits in music were created, and Living on the Moon, which explores the possibility of colonising the moon.

SSP makes shows including iCrime with Elizabeth Vargas, The Real Story with Maria Elena Salinas and Exposed with Deborah Norville. “By bringing Strong Island Films into the company, we strengthen and expand our reach,” said Sternberg.
