Scandinavian pubcasters NRK, SVT among broadcasters to try Killing Escobar

Killing Escobar was originally commissioned by BBC Scotland

NRK in Norway and SVT in Sweden are among the international broadcasters to have bought feature documentary Killing Escobar from Amcomri-owned UK distributor Abacus Media Rights.

Made by UK prodcos Two Rivers Media and Salon Pictures, the film covers a Colombian cartel’s attempt to kill drug lord Pablo Escobar in 1989, hiring UK hitman Peter McAleese to do so. The documentary covers McAleese’s upbringing in Glasgow before getting to the mission itself.

The feature is executive produced by Alan Clements and Mick McAvoy for Two Rivers Media and Nick Taussig for Salon Pictures.

Radio Canada; Discovery in Italy; RTL Deutschland in Germany, Austria and Switzerland; Canal+ in Poland; Channel 8 in Israel; TV+ in Turkey; and NOS in Portugal have all sealed deals with Abacus for the doc, which was originally commissioned by BBC Scotland.

Other buyers include OSN in Middle East; Foxtel in Australia; Rialto Channel in New Zealand; Now TV in Hong Kong; DR in Denmark; National Geographic in The Netherlands; VRT in Flemish Belgium; UK streamer BritBox; DirecTV in Latin America for its OnDirecTV channel DirecTV Go; and Sundance Now in the UK and Ireland.
