SBS, BBC Studios, Smithsonian and others buy WWII docs in 80th anniversary year

Woodcut International’s Surviving WW2 is among the titles sold

Australian broadcaster SBS, BBC Studios and Smithsonian Channel Canada are among the latest buyers of Woodcut International’s Second World War documentaries, marking the 80th anniversary of the war’s end this year.

SBS has acquired an 18-hour package of docs including Woodcut Media’s Surviving WW2 (3×60’) and Prague-based Picasso Film’s feature-length doc Auschwitz: Countdown to Liberation (1×84’) and docuseries Mengele Unveiled (3×60’).

BBC Studios has also picked up Surviving WW2, Auschwitz: Countdown to Liberation and Mengele Unveiled for BBC Select in the US and Canada, with Smithsonian Channel Canada also taking Surviving WW2.

Meanwhile, Viasat World, M6 in France and Multicanal Iberia’s Canal Historia in Spain have acquired Auschwitz: Countdown to Liberation.
