Samsung TV Plus claims 100 million monthly active users worldwide

Samsung TV Plus put the rise in viewing down to an increase in creative and brand partners

Samsung TV Plus has claimed to have reached 100 million monthly active users globally for the first time, with a 25% year-on-year increase in viewing hours driven by live events, interactive experiences and strategic partnerships.

Among the live events the OTT service has broadcast was the Jonas Brothers’ concert series, which included interactive real-time voting using the remote control.

The free streamer said the viewing boost has come as a result of expanding its roster of creative and brand partners to bring more channels to its platform.

These include agreements with digital creators such as Mark Rober, Dhar Mann and Smosh, in addition to partnerships with Spotify, David Letterman and major sports leagues such as the NFL, NBA, MLB and German football league Bundesliga.

In EMEA and the UK, Samsung TV Plus has struck distribution agreements and launched FAST channels with studios and broadcasters such as NBCUniversal, ITV Studios and BBC Studios.

Among these is a 24/7 channel dedicated to reality brand Keeping Up with the Kardashians, in addition to titles such as culinary format Come Dine with Me, BBC Earth, BBC Drama and motor show Top Gear.

“Our focus remains on delivering premium, authentic experiences that connect our audiences around the world — and this year’s breakthrough interactive moments, live events and innovative partnerships show just how powerfully that resonates,” said Salek Brodsky, senior VP and head of global, Samsung TV Plus.
