Sam Jay joins late-night circuit at HBO

US premium cablenet HBO will debut a late-night talkshow fronted by comedian and writer Sam Jay at the end of this month.

Created by Saturday Night Live writer Jay and producer Prentice Penny, Pause with Sam Jay will also be available on streaming platform HBO Max. It is due to premiere on May 21.

Penny’s prodco Penny For Your Thoughts is producing the show alongside Avalon and Art & Industry. As well as Jay and Penny, the exec producers include Alex Soler for Penny For Your Thoughts; Chris Pollack, Langston Kerman, Diane Fitzgerald, David Martin and Kara Baker for Avalon; and Michelle Caputo and Shannon Hartman for Art & Industry.

Jay’s first stand-up special, Sam Jay: 3 in the Morning, debuted last year on Netflix. Penny is best known as showrunner for HBO drama series Insecure.
