S4C orders football docs about Gareth Bale, Welsh national team at World Cup

Gareth Bale: Living the Dream from Barn Media

Welsh pubcaster S4C has ordered sports documentaries about recently retired footballer Gareth Bale and the Welsh national team’s Fifa World Cup campaign in Qatar last year.

Gareth Bale: Byw’r Freuddwyd (Gareth Bale: Living the Dream, working title, 1×60′) comes from South Wales-based Barn Media and is directed by Rhys Edwards.

Delving into the life and career of the Welsh legend and his place in the pantheon of world football greats, it celebrates Bale’s remarkable story, from his early days as a promising young prospect to his stunning rise to fame with Tottenham and his record-breaking transfer to Real Madrid.

It features rarely seen footage and interviews with teammates, coaches and Welsh fans, including Harry Redknapp, Theo Walcott and Rob Page.

Meanwhile, Ffilmiau Twm Twm, an indie based in Y Felinheli in Wales, has been commissioned to produce Qatar: Cymru Ar Ben y Byd (Wales on Top of The World).

The behind-the-scenes documentary looks at the experiences of the Welsh football team and their fans at the 2022 World Cup in Qatar, which marked the first time Wales had been at the tournament in 64 years.

Combining footage from the team’s training camp in Qatar with videos filmed by some of Wales’ most dedicated supporters, it documents a historic high that was also a time of great disappointment for team and supporters alike after Wales crashed out of the tournament bottom of their group.
