S4C launches Welsh Wednesdays with Ryan Reynolds’ Maximum Effort Channel

Ryan Reynolds’ Maximum Effort makes the Deadpool films and docuseries Welcome to Wrexham

Welsh pubcaster S4C has linked with Ryan Reynolds’ Maximum Effort Channel, a partnership with US streaming platform FuboTV, to provide it with Welsh-language content.

Launching tomorrow, S4C will provide six hours a week of Welsh-language content curated by Reynolds to be streamed on Wednesdays, including dramas, documentaries and entertainment formats.

Programmes include drama series Bang and docs Petrol Head (Pen Petrol), Red Wall (Y Wal Goch), Wrexham Our Club (Wrecsam Clwb Ni), Vets (Y Fets) and Gareth Bale: Living the Dream (Gareth Bale: Byw’r Freuddwyd).

S4C said the commercial deal will create income to invest back into the Welsh creative sector.

As well as FuboTV, Maximum Effort Channel is available on Amazon’s Freevee, Fox‘s Tubi, Comcast’s Xumo Play and Dish Network’s Sling Freestream, among other platforms.

The channel is managed by Reynolds’ prodco Maximum Effort, producer of the Deadpool films and the FX and Disney+ football docuseries Welcome to Wrexham.

Llinos Griffin-Williams, S4C’s chief content officer, said: “Wales has a population of just over three million, but Ryan can reach tens of millions of people on his social media feeds alone. It gives us the opportunity to show Welsh culture, language and talent on the international stage in our Wednesday takeovers.

“This commercial deal will take Welsh-language content to Hollywood and the world. It will benefit the entire creative sector and talent pool here in Wales as we showcase everything from S4C dramas to entertainment formats, documentaries and sport. We’re a small nation that punches well above our weight.”
