S4C and BBC Cymru order Fiction Factory, All3Media dark comedy Pren ar y Bryn

Welsh pubcaster S4C and BBC Cymru Wales have commissioned a dark comedy-drama series called Pren ar y Bryn (Tree on a Hill) to be shopped internationally by All3Media International.

Produced by Tinopolis’ Cardiff-based prodco Fiction Factory and All3Media International, the six-part series is written and created by Ed Thomas (Hinterland/Y Gwyll, House of America).

Pren ar y Bryn follows a couple whose quiet lives are changed in an instant when they find themselves on the wrong side of the law.

Set in a bypassed town at the edge of a valley, S4C and BBC Cymru Wales describe the series as “a story about crumbling values, resilience and transgression being the key to liberation.”

Filming has begun on location in Ystradgynlais on the River Tawe at the edge of the Brecon Beacons, where writer/creator Thomas grew up. Rhodri Meilir (In My Skin, Hidden) and Nia Roberts (Craith/Hidden, Yr Amgueddfa) star in the lead roles.

Pren ar y Bryn will be broadcast by S4C and BBC One and made available on BBC iPlayer.
