Russell helps stir specials into Cream

Canadian outfit Cream Productions has appointed veteran documentary producer Corey Russell as executive VP as it launches a new division focusing on specials.

Russell will oversee all creative for the fledgling Cream Films and be tasked with developing and producing music, sports and documentary specials.

The former co-owner of Fadoo Productions, which he launched in 2012, will report to David Brady, CEO and co-owner, and Kate Harrison Karman, president and co-owner.

Among Fadoo Productions’ documentaries were the Kiefer Sutherland-narrated Names on the Cup, about the history of the Stanley Cup, as well as the Paul Rudd-narrated Rush: Time Stand Still, about the legendary rock band Rush and the band’s final tour.

In 2019, he produced Killing Patient Zero, which made its world premiere at Hot Docs Film Festival and was directed by Laurie Lynd (Breakfast with Scot). The films tells the true story of the AIDS crisis in America.

Russell’s latest documentary is about 1980s rock icons The Go-Go’s and is directed by Alison Ellwood (History of the Eagles) and will make its world premiere at the Sundance Film Festival this month.

“His expertise in premium storytelling, his ability to find unprecedented access and strategically connect leading talent is a perfect synergy for Cream as we prioritise music, sports and documentary specials,” said Brady.

Cream is currently in production on the Netflix series Age of Samurai: Battle for Japan as well as The Story of Late Night for CNN, while its other productions include Fear Thy Neighbor (ID), Paranormal Emergency (Travel), History Erased(History), BTK: A Killer Among Us (ID) and The Dictator’s Playbook (PBS).
