RTVE attempts to Beat the Chasers

ITV’s version of gameshow Beat the Chasers

Spain’s RTVE has become the latest broadcaster to commission a local adaptation of British quiz format Beat the Chasers.

The format is a spin-off from The Chase, with both shows originally commissioned by UK commercial broadcaster ITV.

RTVE is the fifth international network to pick up the format from ITV production and distribution arm ITV Studios (ITVS).

The series, locally titled La Noche de los Cazadores, will feature some of the brightest quiz brains in Spain taking on four professional quizzers – the ‘Chasers’ – to win a cash prize.

El Cazador, the local adaptation of The Chase, has already aired for four seasons on RTVE’s TVE channel, which will also host La Noche de los Cazadores. Mediacrest will produce.

Toni Prieto Ragel, director of entertainment programmes at RTVE, said: “We are very happy with the results and the reception by the Spanish public of The Chase and, therefore, we have decided to produce a season of the Beat the Chasers for our primetime slot.”

Daniel Domenjó, exec director of Mediacrest, added: “We’re very excited about the challenge of releasing Beat the Chasers in Spain after the success achieved with The Chase in the evening slot of public service broadcaster TVE.”

Beat the Chasers has already been adapted in the Netherlands, Finland and Australia, among others. It was created by Potato, part of ITV Studios, and is distributed internationally by ITVS.
