RTÉ, NPO, MTV among latest European buyers for Objective Media’s fact-based crime drama The Gold

The Gold S2 is inspired by events that followed the 1983 Brink’s-Mat robbery

RTÉ in Ireland, NPO in the Netherlands and Finland’s MTV are among the latest broadcasters to acquire UK crime drama series The Gold.

From Neil Forsyth and produced by Objective Media Group’s Tannadice Pictures for UK pubcaster the BBC, The Gold is inspired by the true story of the 1983 Brink’s-Mat robbery and decades-long chain of events that followed.

Starring Hugh Bonneville, season one premiered in 2023 and S2 is currently in production.

RTÉ has acquired the first season of the drama, as have Portugal’s RTP2 and Pickbox Now and Pickbox TV in Croatia, Slovenia, Serbia, North Macedonia, Montenegro and Bosnia and Herzegovina. NPO and MTV have picked up S2, along with Cosmote TV in Greece.

The latest sales follow a round of global pre-sales, in which PBS’s Masterpiece pre-bought both seasons for the US and English-speaking Canada and CBC Gem pre-bought the VoD rights for the latter.

MagentaTV/Telekom in Germany, Stan in Australia, Rialto Channel in New Zealand and ERR in Estonia also pre-bought both seasons, as did BBC Studios for Asia and India.

All3Media International distributes The Gold globally. Objective Media Group is part of All3Media.
