RTÉ-backed Captain Carrie and the Monster Ship sails to Cartoon Forum

Treehouse Republic and Hey Daisy Moon’s Captain Carrie and the Monster Ship

RTÉ in Ireland is backing an animated series from Dublin-based Treehouse Republic and Scotland’s Hey Daisy Moon that was co-developed with former Netflix exec Alexi Wheeler.

Captain Carrie and the Monster Ship (26×7′) will be pitched at coproduction event Cartoon Forum in France later this month and is aimed at children aged between five and seven.

The project, which has received development funding from Screen Ireland and is being backed at Cartoon Forum by Irish pubcaster RTÉ, follows a young girl and her crew as they go on swashbuckling adventures.

Set in a world of lovable monsters, cheeky magical creatures, long-lost treasure and all-out action and adventure, Carrie and her crew hop between islands, fixing problems and making new friends.

It was developed by Remy Labaki’s Edinburgh-based Hey Daisy Moon alongside Treehouse Republic and Wheeler, who served as a creative consultant at the latter after exiting Netflix in 2023 before teaming up with France’s Superprod.

“It feels like a brand that could be absolutely huge. We’ve done a lot of smaller scale, Irish-centric shows and this is us branching out into something bigger,” Treehouse Republic CEO and producer Dale Robinson told C21.

Treehouse has previously successfully pitched projects such as Atom Town at Cartoon Forum, which will be held in the French city of Toulouse between September 16 and 19.
