Romania’s Pro TV adapts Turkish drama Insider through Eccho Rights deal

Turkish crime drama Insider sold worldwide

Production is underway on a Romanian adaptation of Turkish crime drama Insider, under a scripted format deal between CME-owned commercial broadcaster Pro TV and distributor Eccho Rights.

The Romanian version, titled The Clan, follows an undercover police officer tasked with infiltrating a crime gang but whose work is complicated by his personal relationships on the other side of the law. The original Turkish series was produced for Show TV by prodco Ay Yapim.

Eccho Rights will distribute The Clan after it launches this autumn.

The adaptation comes soon after Pro TV, Eccho Rights and Ay Yapim worked together on Vlad, the adaptation of Ay Yapim’s classic drama Ezel. Vlad ran for four seasons on Pro TV and is often described as one of the best Romanian drama series produced.

“With every production, we aim to go to the next level. This is the promise of our new fiction series that will bring that cutting-edge experience. High production, cinematic values, tons of locations and many exterior shoots are all part of The Clan experience,” said Antonii Mangov, programming sirector at Pro TV.

“Insider was a giant hit, not just here in Turkey but all around the world,” said Handan Özkubat, director of Turkish drama at CJ ENM-owned Eccho Rights. “With Pro TV’s brilliant track record in script adaptation and commitment to bringing a unique take on existing fantastic stories, we are in no doubt that The Clan will be just as successful.”

In related news, Eccho has picked up its latest Turkish drama for international distribution. Hear Me, from Bitter Sweet Life production company Sürec Film, is a young-adult drama exploring themes of bullying, social injustice and high school romances. It is set to premiere early this summer on Star TV in Turkey.

“Sürec Film has long been established as one of Turkey’s top producers,” said Özkubat. “With interest in young-adult drama more intense than ever, we know that this title will become a big hit with international audiences.”
