Rola Bauer to exec produce live-action Totally Spies! and Pompeii series for Amazon MGM

Rola Bauer, who left her role as head of pan-English-language scripted originals at Amazon MGM Studios late last year, has agreed to executive produce a pair of live-action series, Totally Spies! and Pompeii: A Day of Fire, for the studio.

Bauer’s departure from Amazon MGM Studios was revealed at the end of October, with the exec returning to producing and her “entrepreneurial roots.”

Totally Spies! is an adaptation of the Banijay Kids & Family animated series, about a group of stylish best friends as they navigate saving the world as international spies, while trying to survive the ups and downs of first-year college life.

The young-adult series also counts Will Ferrell, Jessica Elbaum, Alix Taylor (Gloria Sanchez Productions) and Banijay Kids & Family CEO Benoît Di Sabatino among its executive producers. The project is currently in production.

Pompeii: A Day of Fire, a limited series created by showrunners Michael Hirst and Horatio Hirst, follows the people of ancient Pompeii on the day Mount Vesuvius erupted.

Based on the novel A Day of Fire: A Novel of Pompeii, the project comes from Scott Free Productions and Amazon MGM Studios.

In addition to Bauer, exec producers on the project include Ridley Scott, David W Zucker, Clayton Krueger and Sharon Hughff of Scott Free Productions.

Michael Hirst and Horatio Hirst, who are also exec producers, recently received a green light from Prime Video for historical drama Bloodaxe.

“Rola approached me a few years ago with the idea for this remake, and as a passionate supporter of the project I’m thrilled she’s bringing her expertise and vision for the series in this new role,” said Di Sabatino, referring to Totally Spies!.

Zucker, Scott Free Productions’ chief creative officer, said: “Scott Free has enjoyed all variety of pioneering pursuits with Rola over the last 20 years and we very much look forward to aligning with her again on the ambitious production of Pompeii.”
